We design homes and provide consulting across residential design and construction.
SheSpoke’s work ranges from complete residential design services to independent advisory and technical support for homeowners, architects, designers, and builders. Some engagements are highly visible. Others operate quietly within an existing team or process.
We move fluidly between design leadership, technical development, detailing, coordination, constructability, project team building and advisory work — adapting our role to the needs of the project.
Underlying all of our work is decades of experience across both building design and construction, and a practical understanding of how residential projects are realized.

SheSpoke Studio was founded by Joan Helen Barton and Daniel Turner alongside their ongoing roles as Principals of Dirty Girl Construction.
Their work is shaped by decades of experience across residential design, construction, and project development, informed by long-term involvement in the coordination and realization of custom residential work.
Joan’s practice has continually evolved between design and construction, while Dan brings a rigorous understanding of the technical systems underlying residential projects.
Their roles remain fluid, and their approach to design is intentionally flexible — undefined in form, yet refined through decades of practice.
Each engagement develops according to the needs of the work, the client, and the broader project team.
